Kinshasa - Saba:

Sixty-six civilians were killed in two attacks launched by armed militants in eastern Congo, near the border with Uganda.

Security authorities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo said on Sunday that armed militants belonging to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) launched two attacks in the Irumu area of Ituri province, killing 66 civilians.

For his part, Jean Toby Okala, spokesperson for the United Nations Mission in Ituri, condemned the two attacks in a statement.

The ADF is active on both sides of the border between Congo and Uganda, in a highly porous area that facilitates the armed group's operations and further complicates the security situation in eastern DRC.
