Civil Defense spokesman in the Gaza Strip Mahmoud Basal on Sunday confirmed that all talk of an Israeli withdrawal from areas in al-Zeitoun, al-Tuffah, and al-Shuja'iyya neighborhoods is completely false.
Basal said in a statement "What happened was only a very limited retreat of vehicles, and the occupation forces were covering them with fire up to Salah al-Din Street."
He added: "All citizens should avoid Salah al-Din Street at all, because anyone who approaches there is subject to direct and merciless targeting."
Basal added: "We have strong indications of the presence of martyrs, wounded, and besieged people in that area."
He emphasized: "We are unable to reach those areas, whether with or without coordination."
Basal urged "citizens located west of Salah al-Din Street not to climb onto roofs, sit in front of houses, or film from windows."
