The Center for Protecting Journalists (PJPC) condemned on Sunday the Israeli enemy's crime of targeting photojournalist Hussam Saleh al-Adlouni, the latest attack perpetrated by Israeli enemy forces against journalists in the Gaza Strip.
According to the center's initial investigation, al-Adlouni was martyred, along with his wife and three children, when Israeli aircraft targeted a tent sheltering them in al-Qarara area, north of Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip.
In a statement, the center condemned the continued Israeli massacre of Palestinian journalists, who are targeted whether during their field coverage, while in their homes, displacement camps, or even while receiving treatment in hospitals.
It emphasized that journalists in the Gaza Strip face multiple violations, including work bans, detention, threats, and kidnapping, in addition to the systematic destruction of media infrastructure, including the disruption of communications networks, and the targeting and piracy of Palestinian content on digital platforms.
The center documented the killing of at least 31 journalists since the beginning of 2025, while 91 journalists, including 23 female journalists, were killed in 2024.
It noted that the attacks were not limited to journalists themselves, as 512 of their relatives lost their lives as a result of Israeli enemy bombing, and 77 of their homes were completely destroyed.
The center warned that this systematic escalation has forced many media organizations to evacuate their headquarters, restricting the work of journalists and endangering their lives.
It considered the targeting of journalists to be systematic and constitutes an "organized massacre" that amounts to war crimes under international law.
The center called on the United Nations, the International Federation of Journalists, and all human rights and humanitarian organizations to take immediate action to stop the targeting of media professionals and hold those responsible for these violations accountable before competent international courts.
It stressed that civilian journalists are considered, according to international humanitarian law, particularly the Geneva Conventions, protected persons during armed conflicts, and that it is prohibited to target them or attack the infrastructure they use in the performance of their professional and humanitarian duties.
