Nouakchott - Saba:
Thousands of Mauritanians demonstrated yesterday, Friday, in the capital, Nouakchott, to condemn the ongoing genocide perpetrated by the Zionist enemy in the Gaza Strip.
The march began after Friday prayers in front of the Grand Mosque in Nouakchott, heading toward the UN headquarters, under the slogan "Gaza: Resistance and Steadfastness," according to Anadolu Agency.
The demonstrators raised the Mauritanian and Palestinian flags, along with pictures of several Hamas leaders, including Ismail Haniyeh and Yahya Sinwar, and chanted slogans in support of the resistance in Gaza.
The demonstration was called for by non-governmental organizations, including the National League for Supporting the Palestinian People and the Student Initiative to Combat Zionist Penetration and Defend Just Causes, as part of a series of events supporting the Palestinian cause.
Participants held the United States responsible for the ongoing genocide.
Mohamed Salem Ould Abidine, spokesperson for the National League, said the march was part of "the ongoing popular uprising offered by the Mauritanian people in support of Gaza."
He added, "The Mauritanian people continue to provide various forms of support to our people in Gaza, whether through donations, marches, or solidarity campaigns."
Ould Abidine called on Arab and Islamic peoples to "intensify their field and diplomatic efforts to support the Palestinians."
He emphasized that "the scale of the crimes committed by the Zionist enemy requires a strong and comprehensive uprising from the nation to stop this genocide."
Since October 7, 2023, the Zionist enemy, with American support, has been committing genocide in Gaza, including killing, starvation, destruction, and displacement, ignoring international calls and orders from the International Court of Justice to halt it.
