UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed his deep concern over the sanctions imposed by the United States on the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, describing them as a "dangerous precedent."
In response to questions from journalists, Guterres' spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, said in a statement: "Imposing sanctions on special rapporteurs sets a dangerous precedent. Francesca Albanese, like all other rapporteurs, is an independent expert appointed by and reporting to the Human Rights Council. The Secretary-General has no authority over them or their work."
