Rio de Janeiro – SABA:
Leaders of the BRICS nations, convening in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Sunday, issued a strong call for an immediate, permanent, and unconditional ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, emphasizing the need for further negotiations to end the ongoing war.
In their joint final communiqué, the BRICS leaders also:
- Stressed the necessity of the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
- Condemned violations of international humanitarian and international law, including the use of starvation as a method of warfare in the Gaza Strip.
Hamas Responds
In a statement received by SABA News Agency, the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) welcomed the BRICS declaration, saying:
“We commend the final statement of the BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro, especially its call for a ceasefire in Gaza, the withdrawal of the occupation army, and its condemnation of war crimes and the use of starvation against civilians.”
Hamas further urged BRICS nations and the international community to:
- Exert pressure on the Israeli government to comply with international law.
- End the aggression and genocide against innocent civilians.
- Lift the illegal siege imposed on over 2.25 million Palestinians in Gaza.
The summit is being held in Brazil over two days (Sunday and Monday) and brings together key member states — Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa — alongside newly joined or participating countries in an expanded BRICS format. The war in Gaza has dominated much of the agenda amid growing global calls for accountability and an end to the Israeli assault.
