Washington - Saba:
The family of American bodybuilding legend Ronnie Coleman announced Thursday that he is suffering from a serious blood infection.
On his Instagram account, which has 11.9 million followers, his family published an official statement confirming that Coleman, 61, has been transferred to a specialized medical facility to receive the highest level of medical care available and is under intensive and close medical supervision.
The statement read: "Rooney is currently receiving treatment for a bloodstream infection, and while his condition remains complex, there are encouraging signs of improvement. Careful testing and treatment are ongoing, and he continues to fight with the strength and resilience that always characterizes him."
Concerns about Coleman's health began when he was forced to cancel a planned tour of the UK and Europe.
He wrote in a previous Instagram post: "Unfortunately, I will not be able to travel to the UK as planned. I had a medical emergency and had to remain in the US for treatment... Don't worry, I'm in good hands, receiving the best care, and I'll come back stronger than before."
Ronnie "The King" is considered one of the greatest bodybuilders in history, holding the joint record for most Mr. Olympia wins (8 times) and 26 professional IFBB titles. He retired from competition in 2007.
