Russian tennis players Andrey Rublev and Karen Khachanov have advanced to the third round of Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam of the season, played on grass courts with a total prize pool of £53.5 million.
Andrey Rublev secured his spot after defeating South Africa’s Lloyd Harris in four sets: 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 6-3. Their match, held on Wednesday, lasted two hours and 45 minutes. Rublev, currently ranked 14th in the world, will face France’s Adrian Mannarino (ranked 123rd) in the next round.
Karen Khachanov also reached the third round after a five-set battle against Japan’s Shintaro Mochizuki, winning 1-6, 7-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. The match lasted three hours and 43 minutes. Khachanov, seeded 17th in the tournament, will next meet Portugal’s Nuno Borges.
