A training program for students from the Plant Protection Department at the Faculty of Applied Sciences – University of Al-Dhalea has concluded at the National Agricultural Training Center, affiliated with the General Authority for Agricultural Research and Extension.
During the closing ceremony, Dr. Hassan Al-Khawlani, Director of the Research Sector at the Authority, emphasized the importance of the Authority’s role in enhancing cooperation with universities, research centers, public and private institutions, and farmers’ associations. This is achieved through conducting scientific research, training, and spreading modern agricultural techniques, all aimed at serving the community and achieving sustainable agricultural development.
Dr. Afeef Rajeh, national expert and trainer in plant protection, explained that the two-week training program included field and laboratory training. It covered various topics such as sampling methods, assessing infection levels in field and orchard crops, field and lab inspection techniques, preparation of nutrient media, isolation and identification of fungi, and analysis of insect-related viral transmission.
The program also included methods for collecting and preserving insects, pest-related risks to agricultural production, and the importance of implementing integrated pest management to protect the environment and ensure sustainable plant production. Additionally, it featured national experiences and practical applications in biological control and the production of fungal, bacterial, and natural agents.
