Financial Times: 12 African countries struggle to contain monkeypox outbreak
[02/ July/2025]

London - Saba:

The Financial Times reported on Wednesday that more than a dozen African countries are struggling to contain the outbreak of monkeypox, amid reduced aid from the United States and Europe, and that local health systems are ill-prepared to combat the spread of the virus.

The newspaper said that more than a dozen African countries are struggling to contain the outbreak, after aid cuts from the United States and the European Union left their fragile health systems ill-prepared to deal with the spread of the virus.

According to the newspaper, citing data from the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 21,000 cases of the disease were recorded in 12 African countries in 2025.
