Iraq assumed the presidency of the Asia-Pacific Group for July, and received the group's support for its candidacy for membership in the Human Rights Council (2026–2028).
The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) on Friday that "the monthly meeting of the Asia-Pacific Group for June was held at the United Nations headquarters in New York, during which the countries of the group announced their support and endorsement of the Republic of Iraq's candidacy for membership in the Human Rights Council for the period 2026–2028."
