Washington – Saba:
Democratic Representative Al Green of Texas introduced a resolution on Tuesday to impeach U.S. President Donald Trump over the strikes on Iran without consulting lawmakers.
According to Russia Today, Republican Representative Thomas Massie had previously described the strikes on Iran as a violation of the U.S. Constitution. Additionally, Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez stated that the incident could serve as grounds for impeaching the president.
The resolution states: "President Trump’s unilateral use of force without prior provocation and without authorization or notification from Congress constitutes an abuse of power in the absence of any direct threat to the United States, contributing to the transformation of American democracy into an authoritarian system."
Green cites Article 1, Section 8, Clause 11 of the U.S. Constitution, which grants Congress the authority to declare war on other nations, accusing Trump of violating this clause.
