Iraq's UN Security Council Representative: Targeting Nuclear Facilities Sets Dangerous Precedent
[23/ June/2025]

New York - Saba:

Iraq's UN Security Council Representative, Abbas Kazim Obaid, said Sunday evening that targeting nuclear facilities sets a dangerous precedent.

Kazim added in a speech to the UN Security Council, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the developments taking place in the region represent a real test for the international system based on international law and the UN Charter." He noted that "the attack on Iran threatens to ignite regional wars in the region, whose people have been suffering for decades."

He stressed that "unilateral actions that bypass the Security Council weaken the prestige of the international organization," noting that "targeting nuclear facilities could lead to catastrophic radiation leaks not only for the country hosting the facilities but also for regional and neighboring countries, including Iraq."
