Moscow - Saba:
Maria Zakharova, the official spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, stated that "Israel is the only country in the region possessing nuclear weapons, and it is now bombing Iran—which has none—alongside the United States."
In a post on her Telegram channel on Sunday, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman wrote that "Israel is the sole Middle Eastern country ignoring initiatives to establish a nuclear-weapon-free zone."
She added: "To this day, the only state in the region with nuclear weapons is Israel, which systematically disregards efforts to create a nuclear-free Middle East. Now, it is bombing Iran—a non-nuclear state—in collaboration with the U.S."
Zakharova’s remarks came in response to comments by Rafael Grossi, Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), who called for a return to negotiations and allowing IAEA inspectors access to Iranian nuclear facilities. She stated: "Missiles have struck the negotiating table today," and it was hard to miss where they were launched from. "Why, once again, are statements being polished and stripped of any clear reference?"
On the night of June 22, the U.S. carried out strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities in Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan.
The U.S. attacks drew widespread international condemnation, with UN Secretary-General António Guterres describing the strikes as a dangerous escalation in the region and a direct threat to international peace and security.
Russia also condemned the U.S. strikes, calling them a blatant violation of international law, the UN Charter, and Security Council resolutions, while urging the IAEA to respond to the developments.
