Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Administration, Local and Rural Development Mohammed al-Madani, along with Dhamar Governor Mohammed al-Bukhaiti, on Sunday reviewed the research activities of the General Authority for Agricultural Research and Extension.
During their visit, al-Madani emphasized the Authority's crucial role in serving the agricultural sector through research, technology development, and pest control.
He directed the Authority to collaborate with governors to align research with local agricultural aspirations, affirming the government's commitment to supporting this vital sector to achieve self-sufficiency.
Governor al-Bukhaiti underscored the importance of utilizing the Authority's capabilities to boost grain and legume production and expand vegetation cover.
Officials received an overview of the Authority's mission, its research stations, and key outputs, including 16 improved wheat varieties (yielding 3-7 tons per hectare) and nine improved sheep breeds.
Head of the Biotechnology Department Dr. Ahmed al-Jebri also demonstrated the lab's method for propagating new potato varieties, which enhances genetic purity and saves resources.
