Washington Post: Iran Warned Qatar That US Bases in Gulf Could Become Targets
[21/ June/2025]

Washington - Saba:

The Washington Post quoted a European official as saying that Iranian officials have warned Qatar that US bases in the Gulf region could become legitimate targets for Tehran in response to any potential US attack.

According to the newspaper: "Iranian officials warned the Qataris this week that US bases in the Gulf would be legitimate targets in response to a US attack."

The newspaper also reported that US embassies and diplomatic missions in the region could also become targets for Tehran.

It added that armed groups linked to Iran could pose a threat to US personnel and US interests in the region (according to the newspaper).

Previous reports by Fox News and the New York Times indicated that Washington might target Iran's underground Fordow nuclear facility, including the option of using tactical nuclear weapons.

For its part, CBS News reported, citing informed sources, that Trump is leaning toward striking the Fordow facility to prevent the Islamic Republic from "possessing nuclear weapons." He believes "disabling the facility is essential," while noting that Trump "may postpone the strike in the hope that Iran will voluntarily abandon its nuclear program."

Trump has not yet announced his final decision regarding US participation in any military action against Iran, but the White House recently announced that a final decision on the matter would be made within two weeks.

Previous US intelligence reports, in March 2025, denied evidence that Iran was working to build a nuclear bomb.
