China affirmed on Saturday its support for Iran in protecting its national sovereignty, defending its legitimate rights and interests, and ensuring the safety of its citizens, following the Zionist aggression against the Islamic Republic that began early Friday morning.
In a phone call with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araqchi, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi condemned "Israel's violation of Iran's sovereignty, security, unity, and territorial integrity," according to the Chinese news agency Xinhua.
Wang Yi stressed that China opposes reckless attacks targeting Iranian officials and causing civilian casualties.
He also emphasized that Israel's actions seriously violate the principles of the UN Charter and the basic norms governing international relations.
Wang Yi pointed out that the Israeli attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities, in particular, set a dangerous precedent with potentially dire consequences.
Wang Yi expressed China's willingness to maintain communication with Iran and other relevant parties to continue playing a constructive role in calming the situation.
