US President Donald Trump confirmed on Thursday that families of US diplomats had left the Middle East due to "potential danger," amid escalating tensions in the region.
In remarks reported by the American Fox News network, Trump said in response to a question about the departure of families of US diplomats due to the escalation with Iran: "They're being taken out now because it could get dangerous, and we'll see what happens, and we've given them a heads-up to get out."
Regarding Iran, Trump added: "They can't have a nuclear weapon, very simple. They can't have a nuclear weapon, and we won't let them."
Last Wednesday evening, a US official told Sputnik: "Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has authorized the voluntary departure of military families from locations within the Central Command's area of responsibility."
He added that "US Central Command (CENTCOM) is monitoring the escalating tensions in the Middle East and is coordinating with the US State Department and US allies to provide support to any US mission around the world."
Earlier on Wednesday, Reuters reported, citing US and Iraqi sources, that the United States was preparing to evacuate its embassy in Iraq due to "increasing security risks in the region." It is also preparing to evacuate the families of US military personnel in Bahrain.
