The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) on Saturday declared that the current aid distribution model in the Gaza Strip is "ineffective" and akin to an "invitation to people's deaths."
UNRWA spokesperson Juliette Touma stressed that "the only way to distribute aid on a large scale and safely to the people of Gaza is through the United Nations, including UNRWA." Touma also highlighted the agency's work during the ceasefire as "successful and tangible."
The statement reiterates that since October 7, 2023, the "Israeli enemy army," with American and European support, has been committing "genocidal crimes" in Gaza, resulting in the martyrdom of 54,772 Palestinian citizens, predominantly children and women, and the injury of 125,834 others. This is a preliminary toll, with thousands more victims remaining under rubble and on streets, inaccessible to rescue teams.
