Iran condemns U.S. veto on Gaza genocide ceasefire resolution
[05/ June/2025]
Tehran – Saba:
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani condemned on Thursday the U.S. veto of a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire and an end to the genocide in Gaza.

In a statement, Kanaani described the use of the veto as a continuation of Washington’s complicity in the genocidal crimes committed by the Zionist regime against the Palestinian people, according to Iran’s Mehr News Agency.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman criticized the UN Security Council’s failure to adopt the resolution, which demanded an immediate halt to the genocide in Gaza, stating that the U.S. government’s obstruction of the resolution reflects its ongoing support for the Zionist entity’s crimes.

He noted that the resolution received the support of 14 out of 15 Security Council members, with the U.S. being the sole opposing vote.

Kanaani emphasized that the U.S. veto against the proposed resolution—which sought to compel the Zionist regime to stop its genocide in Gaza—not only demonstrates Washington’s blatant disregard for the will of the international community and the people of the region but also exposes the moral decline of American policymakers and their complicity in the killing of Palestinian children.

The spokesman highlighted the U.S.’s long-standing record of blocking any serious Security Council action to hold the Zionist regime accountable, pointing out that Washington has used its veto over 50 times in past decades to oppose resolutions aimed at upholding international law and preventing the entity’s grave violations.

He stressed that this has emboldened the enemy entity’s impunity, making the U.S. a direct accomplice in the Israeli regime’s ongoing colonial aggression and genocide against the Palestinian people.
