Today, the Maytam Customs Center in Ibb Governorate destroyed five tons of smuggled, prohibited, and expired goods and medicines.
The destruction process, which was carried out in the presence of a committee formed by the Customs Authority’s headquarters and headed by the Director General of Sales and Warehouses, Mohammed Aziz, included prohibited items such as cigarettes and electronic shisha devices.
The Director of Maytam Customs Center, Abdu Al-Kahali, explained that the destruction was conducted in accordance with the legal procedures for handling expired, prohibited, smuggled, and rejected goods, in the presence of representatives from the Standards and Metrology Authority, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Violations Prosecution Office, the Supreme Authority for Medicines, the Anti-Smuggling Unit, and the security and intelligence services.
Al-Kahali emphasized that Customs serves as the first line of defense in detecting and destroying smuggled, expired, substandard, and unauthorized goods.
