Ramallah – Saba:

The Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine on Sunday mourned one of its heroes, martyr Ahmed Abu al-Na'aj (al-Safouri), a member of the Jenin Battalion.

The movement reported in a statement that al-Safouri died as a result of torture in the Palestinian Authority prisons in Ramallah, after being arrested at the beginning of the current offensive. He had spent five years in Israeli prisons.

The movement condemned "the continued vile security coordination between the security forces in Ramallah and the Israeli enemy forces, the persecution of resistance fighters, and the abuse of detainees."

It stated that this comes "at a time when our people in the Gaza Strip are being subjected to comprehensive genocide, a brutal war of starvation, the bombing of shelters, and the burning of children and women alive at the hands of the enemy army, with the full sponsorship and complicity of the US administration."

The statement added that this also comes at a time when the Israeli enemy government is launching a frenzied attack against our people in the occupied West Bank, destroying refugee camps in the northern West Bank, expelling our people from their homes, and facilitating settlers' spread of corruption in our land through arson, assault, and home seizures, as well as insults and desecration of our holy sites.

It stated that "the martyrdom of Ahmed Al-Safouri from Jenin camp, who was imprisoned as a result of torture and cruel treatment at the hands of the Palestinian Authority's security forces, according to his family and relatives, and the Ramallah Authority's refusal to hand over his body to his family and to conduct an autopsy after claiming he committed suicide, is a heinous crime that serves only the enemy and its goals. It demonstrates the extent to which the security services have neglected their people, their causes, their rights, and their dignity."

The Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement called on the Palestinian Authority to "immediately release all resistance fighters and political prisoners, curb its security apparatus and its repressive practices, and protect the dignity of our people. We also renew our call to all rational and national forces among our people to urgently intervene to quell the strife that the Israeli enemy seeks to incite."
