China's XZY-1 Rocket Completes Sea Vertical Recovery Test
[30/ May/2025]

Beijing - (Saba):

Chinese company Space Launch announced on Friday that the XZY-1, a stainless steel rocket measuring 26.8 meters tall, 4.2 meters in diameter, and weighing 57 tons at liftoff, had completed a 125-second flight, reaching an altitude of approximately 2.5 kilometers during its full ascent.

This test is part of efforts to advance reusable technology.

A video released by the company showed the rocket restarting its engine during landing, hovering above the sea before softly touching down in a vertical position.

Post-flight data analysis confirmed that the rocket performed normally throughout the test, and experts declared the sea landing a success.

It's worth noting that this test is part of broader efforts by Chinese aviation companies to develop reusable rockets. In 2024, two domestically produced rockets, the Zhouqu-3 and another developed by the Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology, conducted vertical takeoff and landing tests of 10 kilometers in northwest China.
