Caracas - Saba:
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro's party won a landslide victory in the legislative and regional elections boycotted by the opposition, winning a majority of seats in the National Assembly and state governorships.
According to results announced by the country's National Electoral Council on Monday, the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) won in every state except Cojedes (central-western), and Maduro's coalition received 82.68% of the votes in the General Assembly, according to Agence France-Presse.
Maduro described the Socialists' victory in the elections as "a victory for peace and sovereignty in Venezuela."
