Morristown - Saba:
US President Donald Trump on Monday said the United States had conducted "very good" negotiations with Iran, following the conclusion of the fifth round of indirect US-Iranian negotiations regarding the Iranian nuclear program.
"I think we may have some good news on Iran," Trump told reporters at Morristown Airport in New Jersey, prior to his return to Washington after a weekend at the Bedminster Golf Club.
Trump had previously emphasized that "the primary goal of the negotiations is to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon," considering that "direct engagement is a positive step toward achieving mutually beneficial outcomes."
This comes as a senior US diplomatic official revealed that Washington is "considering the possibility of easing some sanctions imposed on Iran as part of an interim agreement being negotiated."
The official explained that "there is a proposal for a preliminary agreement in which Iran clearly demonstrates its willingness to completely abandon its military nuclear program. In this context, the US administration is considering the option of postponing some of the punitive measures in place against Tehran."
