A meeting was convened in Hodeida governorate on Saturday, chaired by Hodeida first undersecretary Ahmed al-Bishri, to address the increasing spread of acute watery diarrhea. The discussion focused on implementing emergency and precautionary measures to curb the outbreak.
The meeting, which included key local officials and health directors, underscored the critical need for the Water Corporation to ensure consistent cleaning of sewage systems, prevent street water contamination, and maintain regular water chlorination.
Furthermore, the Cleanliness and Improvement Fund was tasked with accelerating waste removal, filling potential breeding grounds for disease like swamps, and intensifying preventative spraying. Participants also stressed the importance of bolstering the readiness of hospitals and health centers to handle potential cases, ensuring the availability of necessary treatments, and coordinating with rapid response teams to raise public awareness.
The Environmental Health Department was urged to increase inspections of food establishments to enforce health regulations and prevent food and beverage contamination.
Al-Bishri emphasized the collective responsibility in tackling the issue and the need for enhanced coordination among all relevant bodies, particularly given the rising temperatures. He also highlighted the crucial role of media, community leaders, and public outreach in educating residents about preventative measures and the importance of hygiene.
