Boston - Saba:
Harvard University filed a lawsuit Friday against the administration of US President Donald Trump, challenging a decision to bar it from enrolling international students.
The university contends that this action constitutes unconstitutional political retaliation for its refusal to comply with White House demands.
In the lawsuit filed in federal court in Boston, Harvard said that the decision violates the First Amendment to the US Constitution and will have an "immediate and devastating impact on the university and more than 7,000 students holding visas," according to the Associated Press.
The university added in its lawsuit, "With a single stroke of a pen, the government sought to erase a quarter of Harvard's student body, international students who contribute significantly to the university and its educational mission."
Harvard confirmed that it intends to seek a temporary injunction to halt the implementation of the Department of Homeland Security's decision.
The university, located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, has approximately 6,800 international students, most of whom are graduate students, from more than 100 countries.
