Beijing – SABA:
China vowed on Wednesday to "respond firmly" to new directives issued by the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump targeting advanced semiconductors—particularly those produced by Chinese tech giant Huawei—condemning what it called Washington’s "intimidation tactics."
A spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Commerce stated:
"The U.S. actions are a textbook example of unilateral bullying, combining threats with protectionism. They dangerously destabilize global semiconductor supply chains."
The spokesperson warned that Beijing would take "resolute countermeasures" in response.
- Last week, the Trump administration backtracked on newly proposed restrictions limiting exports of AI-development chips, which would have heavily impacted China.
- However, simultaneously, the U.S. Commerce Department unveiled new guidelines cautioning against the use of Chinese-made advanced semiconductors in AI applications.
