Euro-Mediterranean HR Monitor: 26 Palestinians died in Gaza in 24 hours due to starvation

Gaza - Saba:

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor has said that 26 Palestinians, including 9 children, died in Gaza in 24 hours due to starvation and denial of medical treatment, and the numbers are dangerously increasing.

The monitor added in a statement issued on Tuesday that the sharp rise in deaths among the elderly, the sick, and children comes amid the deadly living conditions deliberately imposed by Israel to decimate the population.

It pointed out that these conditions include the crimes of deliberate starvation, the infliction of severe suffering, and the systematic denial of healthcare, in addition to the comprehensive blockade.

The monitor continued: The absence of an effective mechanism by the Ministry of Health in Gaza to monitor these deaths leads to them being recorded as natural deaths.

It pointed out that its field team documented the painful testimonies of elderly people who were forcibly displaced in the last few hours while starving.

The monitor emphasized that there is no tangible effect of the authorities' claims. The Israeli occupation forces announced that they had allowed humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip yesterday, but it remains unclear whether it has actually entered the Strip.

The Observatory monitor also emphasized that the amount of aid the occupation authorities intend to allow into the Gaza Strip is only a drop in the ocean compared to the urgent daily needs, given the repeated displacement amidst the intense bombardment, which is exacerbating the suffering of the population amidst the famine and depleting their canned food stocks, if any.

The Observatory described the humanitarian crisis in Gaza as having reached catastrophic levels, with hunger affecting all segments of society.

It called on all states to assume their legal responsibilities and take urgent action to stop the crime of genocide in the Gaza Strip.

The monitor called on the international community to impose economic, diplomatic, and military sanctions on the Israeli occupation for its systematic and serious violation of international law.
