Gaza – Saba:
A total of 42 soldiers in the Israeli occupation army have committed suicide since the beginning of the aggression on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023.
The Hebrew-language newspaper Haaretz revealed on Sunday, citing military sources, shocking data regarding suicides among Israeli soldiers from the start of the war on Gaza until the end of 2024. According to the report, 35 soldiers took their own lives during that period, amid tight-lipped silence from the military establishment.
The report added that seven more soldiers committed suicide since the beginning of 2025, with military sources confirming that the ongoing war is the main reason behind the worsening psychological crisis within the army.
Despite the seriousness of these figures, the Israeli army refuses to disclose the exact number of suicides in 2025. Sources noted that many of the deceased were buried quietly without military honors or public announcements.
Meanwhile, thousands of reservist soldiers participating in operations in Gaza are reportedly suffering from severe psychological disorders. The newspaper stated that over 9,000 soldiers have received psychological treatment since the war began. Nevertheless, the army continues to enlist these afflicted individuals in the reserves due to a significant shortage in manpower.
The paper quoted one officer as saying: “We avoid examining the mental state of soldiers for fear of losing more personnel and being left without enough forces.”
