New York Times:Israel incurs heavy losses in Gaza without greeing captives or defeating Hamas
[17/ May/2025]
Washington - Saba:
The American newspaper The New York Times reported on Saturday that Israel continues to suffer heavy losses in its war on Gaza, without yet achieving its declared goals of releasing captives or defeating Hamas.

The newspaper explained that despite the severe losses inflicted by the Israeli military campaign, the fighting has not succeeded in decisively defeating Hamas or forcing the movement to release all captives. It noted that in January, the two sides agreed to a ceasefire that lasted nearly two months before collapsing in mid-March, prompting Israel to intensify its war on the Strip.

The report also highlighted the suffering in Gaza, where the United Nations has warned that its approximately two million residents face widespread starvation amid a collapse in humanitarian aid due to the blockade imposed by Israel in early March.

According to the newspaper, for more than two months, Israel has prevented the entry of food, medicine, and other critically needed supplies into the Strip in an attempt, it claims, to pressure Hamas.
