Louisiana - Saba:

US authorities announced on Friday that 11 high-risk inmates had escaped from a jail in New Orleans, Louisiana, and confirmed that they had immediately launched a massive search operation to locate them.

Sheriff Susan Hutson said in a press conference held in the afternoon that "officials discovered the missing inmates during a routine count at approximately 8:30 a.m. Friday at the Orleans Parish Jail," describing the situation as "extremely dangerous and unacceptable."

Christopher Godley, head of the Sheriff's Office Field Operations, explained that "inmates who violated the terms of their custody or escaped are considered armed and dangerous." Prison records show that "at least four of the escaped inmates are charged with murder or attempted murder, while the others are charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, armed robbery with a firearm, and drug offenses."

Authorities reported that "one of the escapees has been apprehended," while state police released a photo of inmate Kendall Miles, explaining that he was apprehended in the French Quarter after a short foot chase.

Police confirmed that "authorities immediately launched a coordinated search for the inmates, actively working with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies in a comprehensive search."

They also advised the public not to interact with or approach the inmates and to remain alert.
