Paris - Saba:
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot considered the Dutch request to review the EU-Israel partnership agreement "legitimate," calling on the European Commission to study the matter, especially since humanitarian aid has not reached the Gaza Strip for more than two months.
Barrot said in statements on Sunday that the Netherlands had asked the European Commission to examine the Israeli government's compliance with Article 2 of the partnership agreement. "This is a legitimate request, and I call on the European Commission to examine it," he added.
He added, "I believe we need to translate reality into words. The truth is that the Palestinians in Gaza are starving, thirsty, and lacking everything," noting that the Gaza Strip is now on the brink of chaos and collapse due to famine.
In a letter to EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp requested a review of the EU-Israel partnership agreement in accordance with Article 2, which requires Israel to respect human rights and democratic principles.
