Second phase of municipal elections begins in Lebanon
[11/ May/2025]
Beirut - Saba:
The second phase of municipal and mayoral elections began in Lebanon on Sunday morning, in the governorates of North Lebanon and Akkar. This follows the first round last Sunday in Mount Lebanon.

Lebanese Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Ahmad Hajjar, stated that "the electoral process began smoothly and calmly in all polling stations, and minor issues were addressed." He reiterated his call to "citizens and stakeholders not to violate the laws and not to be lenient with any violations."

It is worth noting that the municipal elections in Lebanon, which began last Sunday, came after a three-year postponement. The first postponement was in 2022 due to their coincidence with the parliamentary elections, and the second was in 2023 due to the state's inability to secure the necessary funding.

The municipal and mayoral elections represent a significant milestone in the process of local democracy. Voters will elect their representatives to municipal and mayoral councils amidst growing debate about the preparations and candidates, while the Lebanese await the results, which will reflect the country's political and social trends.
