Moscow - Saba:
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Sunday a proposal to resume direct negotiations with Ukraine without any preconditions.
Putin also announced that he would discuss with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan the possibility of holding these talks in Istanbul, emphasizing the important role the Turkish president could play in facilitating dialogue between the two sides.
He indicated that negotiations could begin on May 15 in Istanbul, calling for constructive talks between the two sides.
In this context, Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized that peace cannot be achieved through escalating the conflict and "recklessly digging trenches," but rather through reaching a long-term settlement.
In press statements, Putin emphasized that Russia has already offered Ukraine negotiations, and the decision now rests with Kyiv and the Western powers that support it.
Putin also noted that Russia thanks all mediators who have helped in trying to reach a peaceful solution to the conflict, including the administration of US President Donald Trump.
For his part, Yuri Ushakov, Russian Presidential Aide for Foreign Affairs, said that a Russian delegation will depart for Istanbul, and that details of the delegation's composition will be announced soon.
