New Delhi - Saba:

The Press Trust of India on Saturday said three people, including a high-ranking Indian official, were seriously injured in Pakistani shelling targeting the Indian-controlled part of Kashmir.

The agency quoted officials as saying, "A senior government official is among three people seriously injured in Pakistani shelling that targeted the Rajouri area of Jammu and Kashmir."

Security sources confirmed on Saturday that the Pakistani army had launched a "retaliatory response to the Indian aggression," coinciding with the sound of air raid sirens in various areas of western India.

The Pakistani military has named its large-scale military operation "Operation Solid Structure," a direct response to the Indian attacks.

Before the operation began, a Pakistani military spokesman asserted that "India is pushing the entire region towards war, and Pakistan will respond at the appropriate time," calling for a response from Islamabad.

On the night of May 6-7, India announced the launch of a military operation against Pakistan, dubbed "Operation Sindur," claiming it targeted "sites from which attacks against India were planned and directed."

Pakistan, in turn, affirmed that it reserves the full right to respond to the Indian military operation, which it described as a "blatant act of war" that threatens Pakistan's sovereignty and stability.
