Sana'a – SABA:

The Sana'a Customs and Inspection Office today destroyed 120 tons of smuggled, prohibited, expired, and non-compliant goods that failed to meet health and safety standards.

During the destruction process at the Al-Azraqin landfill, in the presence of representatives from relevant government agencies, Mohammed Al-Madani, Deputy Director of Customs for Enforcement Affairs, stated that the confiscated goods had been seized by customs authorities.

He highlighted the dangers posed by smuggled goods, including medicines, cigarettes, and e-cigarettes (shisha), which contribute to cancer and other health risks.

Al-Madani emphasized that the destruction operation is part of the Customs Authority’s efforts as the first line of defense against smuggling, protecting society and economic security from harmful goods.

For his part, Shoaib Al-Shatbi, Director of the Sana'a Customs and Inspection Office, explained that the destroyed goods were seized by enforcement units in coordination with anti-smuggling committees and specialized agencies, in addition to items rejected by the Standards and Metrology Authority and the Supreme Medical Authority.

He noted that destruction operations are carried out periodically at the Sana'a office and all other customs centers to eliminate smuggled, prohibited, and expired goods.

Al-Shatbi stressed that the primary role of the Customs Authority is to act as the first line of defense, safeguarding citizens and consumers from harmful products.

He also addressed ongoing measures to implement the directives of His Excellency Field Marshal Mahdi Al-Mashat, Chairman of the Supreme Political Council, regarding banning the import of American goods and products supporting the Zionist entity. Traders have been officially notified not to import any American goods or items supporting the Zionist regime.
