New York state police forcefully dispersed a pro-Palestine sit-in at Columbia University’s library on Wednesday evening, arresting dozens of students. Protesters raised banners and beat drums in support of Gaza, in one of the largest student demonstrations at the university since the war on the enclave began.
The university justified calling the police by stating that the protesters refused to leave the building, while student organizations accused security forces of using violence.
These developments come amid rising anger among American students over the U.S. government’s support for the aggression on Gaza, which has resulted in tens of thousands of martyrs and wounded.
