The Ministry of Culture and Tourism confirmed the commencement of work on the ground electrical connection project for the historic city of Zabid.
Minister of Culture and Tourism Dr. Ali Al-Yafei pointed out to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) the importance of inaugurating this project, which is of great importance in preserving the city of Zabid from any damage that may result from the uncontrolled laying of electrical cables, as well as in preserving the aesthetic appearance of the historic city.
He explained that the ground electrical cables were purchased in 2010, but the project has stalled since then. He highlighted the efforts made by the Ministry of Culture, in cooperation with the Ministry of Electricity and the local authority in Hodeida Governorate, to begin implementing the project.
He pointed out that the project will be implemented in five phases. The first phase includes extending the ground electrical cables to approximately 1,700 meters, followed by the remaining phases until the network connection process is completed for the entire city of Zabid, making it the first city in the Republic to be connected to electricity via ground electrical cables.
Minister Al Yafei stated that this project falls within the framework of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism's plans to preserve historic cities.
