Hodeida - Saba:
A meeting chaired by Al Hodeida Governor Abdullah Atifi discussed on Tuesday emergency measures to address potential flood damage in the province’s center and districts, along with urgent steps to enhance field readiness for service providers.

The meeting, attended by Tihama Development Authority Chairman Ali Hazza’, Provincial Security Director Major General Aziz Al-Jaradi, Public Works Engineer Mohamed Mathna, Agricultural Projects and Initiatives Financing Unit head Yahya Al-Wadei, Al Hodeida Support and Development Fund Director Dr. Riyad Mator, and Deputy Director of the Water Corporation Khaled Fikri, reviewed a matrix of needs for implementing the emergency plan to mitigate flood risks this season.

The session approved forming a joint operations room from relevant agencies to coordinate and oversee rapid response efforts, with direct communication to the central operations room. A clear mechanism was also established through the concerned committee to receive designated support for this purpose.

The meeting stressed the importance of identifying areas most vulnerable to flood risks and reporting them to the Higher Emergency Committee. It also emphasized evaluating the performance of engineering teams, addressing past shortcomings, and proposing necessary corrective measures.

Discussions covered coordination mechanisms among executive offices, relevant agencies, and emergency teams, along with appropriate measures for rainwater drainage and field preparations—including available equipment and machinery—with updated databases linked to the operations room for activation when needed.

Tihama Development Authority was tasked with preparing available equipment and submitting a comprehensive proposal on possible technical interventions in flood channels, particularly in rural districts, and clearing flood pathways.

The meeting urged the swift preparation of a field report assessing potential damage, drainage mechanisms, and actual needs based on visits to critical sites. It also called for coordination with the Al Hodeida Support Fund and relevant entities to address emergency plan requirements and potential repercussions.

Governor Atifi highlighted the importance of early preparedness, teamwork, and integrated efforts to ensure rapid response and minimize damage. He noted that the province faces significant challenges during the rainy season, requiring heightened coordination and proactive measures to protect lives and property—a collective responsibility.
