Pakistani army commander, Iranian FM underlines need for boosted cooperation in region

Pakistan Army Chief, General Asim Munir, and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi emphasized strengthening regional cooperation and emphasized their mutual commitment to ensuring the security of their shared border.

This came in a statement issued by the Pakistan Army's Public Relations Office on Monday evening regarding the meeting between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and Pakistan Army Chief of Staff General Asim Munir, which took place Monday morning at the Pakistan Army Headquarters, according to the Iranian News Agency (IRNA).

The statement read: The Pakistani Army Chief emphasized that relations between the two brotherly neighbors, Iran and Pakistan, are bound by deep historical, cultural, and religious ties.

The meeting included constructive discussions on the geostrategic environment of the region, with a particular focus on the security challenges facing the two countries.

The border security mechanism between Pakistan and Iran was also reviewed as part of efforts to increase bilateral coordination.

During the meeting, the two sides agreed to enhance mutual interaction and bilateral cooperation, while making joint efforts to create positive developments on regional issues.

The Iranian Foreign Minister and the Pakistani Army Chief also expressed their mutual commitment to ensuring the security of their common border.

Araghchi left Islamabad for Tehran on Monday afternoon, after concluding his one-day visit during which he met with Army Chief Munir Asim, Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and President Asif Ali Zardari.
