UN - Saba:
Pakistan requested closed consultations with the UN Security Council on Monday due to the escalating tensions in the region.
This was stated by the Permanent Missions of Pakistan and Greece to the United Nations.
The Permanent Mission of Greece, which holds the UN Security Council presidency this May, said, "The request for closed consultations was received at 3:00 PM local time."
The Pakistani mission, for its part, noted that in light of "the deteriorating situation in the region and the growing tensions in relations between India and Pakistan," the country officially requested emergency closed consultations.
Tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors escalated after the attack near Pahalgam in Indian-administered Kashmir on April 22, in which gunmen opened fire on tourists in the popular tourist destination of Paysaran Valley.
