ICJ session to inquire Israel about commitments towards UN agencies
[30/ April/2025]
Hague - Saba:

Public hearings for an advisory opinion on Israel's obligations towards the United Nations and its agencies and bodies in the occupied Palestinian territories continue in The Hague for the third day.

The International Court of Justice began a week of hearings on Israel's humanitarian obligations towards the Palestinians on Monday, more than 50 days after it imposed a comprehensive blockade on the entry of aid to the war-torn Gaza Strip.

This week, 38 countries are presenting their pleadings, including the United States, China, France, Russia, and Saudi Arabia, as well as the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the African Union.

According to the court's agenda, the hearings (oral arguments) will be held from April 28 to May 2, 2025. Forty-four states and four international organizations have expressed their intention to participate in the proceedings before the court.

This action follows a resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly last December, proposed by Norway, calling on the International Court of Justice to issue an advisory opinion defining Israel's obligations to facilitate the delivery of urgent humanitarian supplies to the Palestinians and ensure their unimpeded access.
