Gaza - Saba:
The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, called for the protection of patients and health workers and the lifting of the blockade on aid to the Gaza Strip.
Ghebreyesus said in a press statement on Sunday evening that the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in the Gaza Strip had ceased operations following the Israeli attack on it early yesterday morning.
He added, "The director of Al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza informed us of the death of a child due to the interruption of care." He stressed that hospitals are protected under international law and that attacks on health facilities must stop.
At dawn on Sunday, Israeli warplanes bombed the reception building at the Al-Ahli Arab (Baptist) Hospital in Gaza City with two missiles, destroying it and causing extensive damage. Fires broke out in the reception and emergency departments, the laboratory, and the pharmacy.
