Canada announces strengthening its military presence in Arctic region

Ottawa - Saba:
The Canadian Ministry of Defense announced today, Friday, strengthening its military presence in the Arctic region, by establishing support centers that include runways, logistics facilities, and advanced equipment.

This step aims to "enable the Canadian forces to defend the country's sovereignty more effectively."

The Ministry of Defense said in a statement: "The Minister of National Defense, Bill Blair, announced the selection of the cities of Iqaluit, Inuvik, and Yellowknife as locations for the Northern Operational Support Centers. This step will contribute to strengthening the presence and capabilities of the Canadian Armed Forces in the Arctic and the North."

The statement added that Canada will invest 2.67 billion Canadian dollars over 20 years within the framework of the updated defense strategy, to establish a network of Northern Operational Support Centers.
