Kremlin: Russia, US can revive relations quickly once leaders choose
[02/ March/2025]
Moscow - Saba :
The Kremlin expects Russia and the United States to normalize their relations faster, if the necessary will is available to do so from Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump.

The Russian RT channel quoted Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov today, Sunday, as saying: "Russia and the United States are trying to improve relations, but due to the actions of the previous administration in Washington, the path to normalization will be long, given the extent of the damage to relations."

"But if the political will is available from Presidents Putin and Trump, normalization can be achieved very quickly and successfully," the spokesman added.

He pointed out that the Trump administration is changing the directions of US foreign policy quickly, and this is largely in line with Russia's vision, as it was unimaginable that Russia and the United States would vote together in favor of a single UN resolution on Ukraine.

In response to a question about cooperation in the field of rare earths, he referred to the position of the American side, which adheres to "a settlement in Ukraine first, and then the economy."

"It seems to me that now it is necessary to identify possible topics for cooperation, but we cannot expect any quick results in this area now."

Commenting on the European position on the policy of the new US administration, Peskov said: "We will see how the position of the Europeans will change given their contacts with the Americans, and given this sudden dynamic in Russian-American relations in general. Time will tell."

Regarding the repeated statements of French President Emmanuel Macron about his readiness to communicate with the Russian president, Peskov stressed that Macron declares his readiness to communicate with the Russian president, but he has not taken steps in this direction, and France is supporting the continuation of the conflict.
