Moscow - Saba:

Russia denied on Friday Ukrainian accusations about targeting the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, following a fire caused by an explosion at the plant site.

Spokesman for the Russian presidency, the Kremlin, Dmitry Peskov, confirmed that there is no talk of striking nuclear infrastructure and nuclear power facilities, noting that "any such allegations are untrue, our army does not do that."

Dmitry Peskov accused Ukrainian officials of launching these accusations to obstruct efforts to end the war through negotiations.

In turn, the International Atomic Energy Agency said that radiation levels inside and outside remain normal and stable, noting that the agency continues to monitor the situation.

It indicated that an explosion was heard during the night in the new safe barrier protecting the remains of the fourth reactor of the former Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine, which led to a fire.

The agency stated that firefighters and vehicles responded to the incident within minutes, while no injuries were reported.
