The General Organization for Grain Development and Production inaugurated on Wednesday the harvest of the 2024 fall season in the Tahami Plain and Surdad Production Farm under the auspices of the Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources Ministry and Hodeida province.
At the inauguration, the Acting Executive Director of the Corporation, Engineer Salah Al-Mashraqi, pointed out that the inauguration comes within the framework of the revolutionary and political leadership to expand the cultivation of grain crops, especially sorghum, which is famous for Hodeida Province.
He stressed that during the coming season, the Foundation will provide the demands of agricultural associations and farmers for the seeds of sorghum, sesame, millet, and shamiya corn, in addition to meeting the needs of the expansion of agricultural areas in the desert with these seeds.
He said that the Foundation, through researchers and agricultural engineers in Hodeidah and in cooperation with the local authority, planted large areas with more than 80 bags of wheat of varieties suitable for the Tihama environment, as research experiments, in some areas suitable for wheat cultivation.
For his part, the head of the Tihama Development Authority, Ali Hazza, stressed the importance of launching the sorghum harvest season, which is considered one of the most important crops in the Tihama Plain. He pointed out that Wadi Surdad is considered one of the most important valleys of the Tihama Plain.
Dr. Ahmed Abdullah, director of Surdid Farm, explained that 120 hectares of red sorghum crops were planted, in addition to 30 hectares of millet crops and 15 hectares equally distributed among sesame, sorghum and improved sorghum variety "Sibon." The farm will continue to reclaim the rest of the land.
