UN rapporteur says crisis in Palestine surpasses genocide
[05/ October/2024]
Ramallah - Saba: Francesca Albanese, the Special Rapporteur on human rights in Palestine, has condemned Israel's actions in the occupied territories, declaring them "indescribable and beyond genocide."

Albanese emphasized that the relentless violence and efforts to eradicate the Palestinian people must compel the United Nations and its members to confront the genocide taking place.

She warned that the dire situation will only deteriorate if global leaders fail to act. She underscored the necessity for nations to adhere to international law, condemning the complicity of Western countries that ignore Israel's crimes against Palestinians.

With the Palestinian cause gaining prominence on the world stage, Albanese noted a rising chorus of voices advocating for Palestinian rights, particularly as electoral losses have befallen European parties that neglected to address the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

Highlighting the appalling conditions faced by Palestinian prisoners, Albanese called for urgent international action to uphold human rights.

She stressed the need for protection of the Palestinian people and their unwavering struggle against the Israeli apartheid regime until they achieve freedom, independence, and the recognition of their statehood.

Albanese urged an end to the selective application of international law, advocating for unified action to dismantle the apartheid regime and restore the Palestinians' legitimate rights.

She praised the accomplishments of Palestinian diplomacy on the global stage, noting their remarkable efforts to advocate for Palestinian rights and internationalize their struggle, a source of pride for Palestinians and their supporters alike.

Addressing the grave situation in al-Quds, she condemned the occupying government's violations of the Palestinian people's rights, including their freedom to practice their religion without obstruction.

Albanese recounted her difficult attempts to enter Palestine, asserting that Israel has no legal basis to bar her entry and must cease these unlawful actions. She vowed to continue her efforts to support the resilient Palestinian people in their fight against occupation.
