Yemen braces for intense thunderstorms, scattered rainfall across multiple provinces
[04/ September/2024]
SANA'A September 04. 2024 (Saba) - The National Center for Meteorology and Early Warning has issued a weather alert for the coming 24 hours, forecasting thunderstorms of varying intensity across several Yemeni provinces.

Key areas expected to experience these storms include Taiz, Lahj, Dhale', Ibb, Dhamar, Raymah, Hajjah, Mahweet, and parts of the western regions of Sana'a, Amran, and Sa'ada.

Additionally, there is a possibility that the storms may extend westward to Tihama Plain and Hodeida province.

Scattered rain, potentially accompanied by thunder, is also anticipated for Bayda, Abyan, Shabwa, Hadramout, Mahrah, and the southern and eastern coasts.

Recent reports indicate that scattered rains have occurred over the eastern coasts, interior plateaus, and parts of the highlands, though these events were largely outside the coverage of meteorological stations.

The center has advised the public to avoid valleys and flood-prone areas, be cautious of thunderstorms, and be aware of reduced visibility on mountain roads due to rain and low cumulus clouds. The risk of rock slides is also noted.
